Message from NHSEI re death in service
ACTION: Read full message and eligibility criteria FAQs here
Further to the request through Internal Medicine Training (IMT) to provide some guidance on staff who work in the independent sector and employed to provide NHS commissioned services, please see the email provided by Melanie Whitfield from the People Directorate. Please share this with your teams as required.
The SoS announced last week a Death in Service Benefit that health care practitioners maybe eligible for if not a member of the NHS pension scheme. This is not the same death in service benefits as permanent employees. It’s a stand-alone life assurance scheme, which is not linked to the pension and is a £60k lump sum payment. I have copied the full note below so you can see the context of the eligibility.
Note that locum and agency staff are covered by the scheme providing they support the delivery of NHS or publicly funded social care services.
Valproate Pregnancy Prevention Programme: temporary advice from MHRA
ACTION: Read the MHRA’s letter in full here
Guidance for initiation of valproate in female patients, for annual review and pregnancy testing to support adherence to pregnancy prevention requirements during the coronavirus pandemic, has been issued by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). Read more here.
GP advice service from Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has published an update on its GP advice service here.
While some specialties are operating on reduced capacity, others have extended operating hours, provided additional support or are now responding to GP queries via advice and guidance on e-RS only.
There have been GP queries about accessing advice and guidance on e-RS. In the link above on our password-protected page for GPs, you will find the NHS Digital guidance. You will also find useful instructions and information in the help section on e-RS. The NW London service desk can also provide support as appropriate.
