Payments, expenditures and reimbursements update

Many of you have been requesting information and clarification on the funding systems that are in place for primary care practices given the changes you are being asked to make in the delivery of services. You will have received an update on this through the NW London primary care contracts team. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact nwl.covid19@nhs.net

Identifying genuine shielded patient calls

ACTION: Read the NHSE FAQs for highest clinical risk patients here

Some patients have reported to practices that they are worried about the calls they receive regarding their ‘shielded’ status, and are asking how they can tell a genuine call from a potential scam.

The NHSE guide in the link above should help reassure anyone with questions. Key points to remember and tell patients are:

Genuine callers will never:

  • Request your date of birth, national insurance  number or bank details

Genuine callers may:

  • Call from a number showing up as 0333 3050466 (or your local practice number) which plays the following message if you call it back: “You were called today by the Shielding Helpline, sorry that we missed you, there is no need to call us back as we will try again soon. Thank you, goodbye”.
  • Ask you to confirm your name
  • Ask you to confirm your NHS number

Remember that if you’re concerned for someone who is at risk because of underlying health issues or age you can register them, or get them to register, on the government's Covid-19 support service for care and essential supplies. Find out more here.

Pharmacy opening times over May bank holiday

ACTION: Please follow the link to access details of which pharmacies will be open in London as part of the commissioned rota

Message from Oxford University and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust re vaccine trial

ACTION: Read the full details here

We are conducting a study to assess efficacy, safety and immunogenicity of a novel viral vectored candidate vaccine against COVID-19. The vaccine developed at the University of Oxford (ChAdOx1 nCoV-19) consists of a replication-deficient simian adenoviral vector encoding the SARS-CoV-2 Spike surface glycoprotein (S).

This is a first-in-human, single-blinded, phase I clinical trial to assess efficacy, safety and immunogenicity of ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 in healthy adult volunteers. We aim to vaccinate up to 1112 participants aged 18-55. Volunteers will receive a 2-5x1010 vp dose of ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 or MenACWY according to the table below. Regular interim safety reviews will be conducted at key points in the trial.
