Royal Free London paediatric ambulatory hub at Edgware Community Hospital
ACTION: Note this service change
The Royal Free London has established a paediatric ambulatory hub at Edgware Community Hospital (Burnt Oak, Edgware, HA8 0AD), to help deliver ambulatory care to children and young people in north central London during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The hub will support Barnet, Camden and Enfield paediatric patients, and will mainly be a nurse-led service, with a registrar on site every day and consultant support.
The service will run Monday to Sunday (including bank holidays) between the hours of 8am-8pm, and is by referral and appointment only.
Services provided at the hub:
- Urgent blood tests
- Urgent Rapid Access Clinic (consultant led)
- Medical reviews of ambulatory patients
- Intravenous antibiotics (IVABs)
- IV infusions
- IM injections
- Dressing clinic
- ECG
- NG tubes
- Prolonged jaundice clinics (Monday and Wednesday)
- Any other clinical nursing need (please call to discuss)
All patients who are referred to the hub will need to be discussed and approved by a consultant or senior nurse. All attendances will be appointment based.
Referrals to the hub must be from:
- Hospital discharges for ambulatory care from the Royal Free Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital
- GP referrals (via acute on-call consultant)
- Rapid Access Clinic referrals
- Community referrals
And can be made via the following routes:
- RFL consultant on-call phone: 07983 637 686
- Royal Free Hospital consultant: bleep 1000 from switchboard (020 7794 0500)
- Edgware Hub direct line: 020 3758 2410
- Edgware Hub email address: rf-tr.edgwarehub@nhs.net
The hub is not equipped to deal with acute emergencies and there is no access to resuscitation equipment. Any child who presents acutely unwell or becomes acutely unwell while at the hub will need to be transferred to the closest emergency department – staff in the hub will contact the emergency services.
Ongoing care of paediatric patients who have been discharged from hospital/ED and are Covid-19 positive
Patients, who are known to be COVID-19 positive, and have been discharged from hospital or ED who require IVABs, blood test, dressings or any on-going clinical treatment will be accepted to the hub in a separate area. Please ensure patients and parents/carers travelling to the hub wear a mask and travel in their own car.
