Spring booster available for extremely high risk groups from 21 March 2022
Published on: 17th March 2022
A Spring booster jab will be available to those at extremely high risk from COVID-19.
It will be available to those who are: aged 75 and over; residing in care homes; or are aged 12 years and over with a weakened immune system. Appointments will be available on the National Booking Service, or by calling 119, from 21 March 2022.
The booster is being given to these groups as the protection from their vaccine (their previous jabs) may be lower and may decline more quickly in these people. If the number of infections increases over the summer, this booster should help to reduce their risk of developing serious illness and being admitted to hospital with COVID-19.
These groups should be offered an appointment around 6 months (and not before 3 months) since their last dose of vaccine.
Most people will be given either a booster dose of either the Pfzer or Moderna vaccine.
