The NHS in North West London has launched a new digital Health Apps Library website for the local population. Working with the Organisation for the Review of Care and Health Applications (ORCHA), the service launched on 16 November 2020 and aims to make it quicker and easier for patients, residents and health care professionals to access safe, accredited health and wellbeing apps, which can make a real difference to people’s lives.

Digital health apps are a fantastic opportunity to provide people in their homes and communities with important health tools and information. They help support people to manage their health conditions (e.g. asthma, mental health conditions) and live healthier and happier lives through exercise and healthy living. ORCHA regularly carry out independent reviews of health and care related apps against robust criteria including clinical standards, patient experience and information governance/data security. Only the highest scoring health apps (above 65% total score) are shown on the NW London site.

Dr Nilesh Bharakhada, a local GP and joint Clinical Lead for Personalised Care and Board member of The Confederation, Hillingdon said:

“There are many different health apps out there but finding high quality apps with robust clinical standards can often be difficult. The NW London Health Apps Library allows our local population to access the best information to help with their health condition and improve their overall wellbeing.

With the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, there is even greater demand for health apps. The NW London Health Apps Library website is particularly useful for patients from high risk populations during these difficult times.”
