North West London CCGs celebrates Black History Month

October, as many know is Black History Month in the UK. A month dedicated to the celebration of African and Caribbean history and recognition of the contribution that Black people have made in the UK.
The North West London Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) like many NHS organisations has a diverse workforce and those from Afro-Caribbean heritage play a huge part in making the NHS what it is today.
For this reason we have spent the month celebrating, reflecting, and taking the time to educate ourselves on the richness of Black history as well as share inspiring stories that are being created today.
Over the last month, the North West London BAME (*Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) Staff Network have organised a variety of events for staff to get involved in. These have included book reviews on books written by black authors, a quiz night and panel discussions around the BAME acronym and its relevance today as well as discussing how to approach the topic of race with young people.
We are really proud to say at all staff, at all levels and of all ethnicities have been involved in the celebrations – sharing experiences and learning from others.
Our senior leaders have also taken the time to celebrate Black History Month and share what it means to them by creating a series of short videos which you can watch here.
We are proud to celebrate the history and achievements of Black people in the UK and around the world. However, we believe that the celebration of Black people and their history should go beyond just October. Please keep an eye out for further events, activities and information that we will be sharing with you in the coming months.
