Ruth Miller, diabetes nurse consultant at north west London CCG’s was celebrated earlier this week at 10 Downing Street.

Ruth Miller was included in the group of NHS Staff and diabetes workers from across the UK who were celebrated at the reception hosted by the Prime Minister Theresa May.

Those attending the reception included children and adults with diabetes, people who care for those with diabetes, specialist NHS staff and academics and innovators looking at prevention, care and researching for a cure.

Ruth was nominated by Dr Partha Kar, Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology for her on going work in diabetes. Ruth’s work includes the diabetes 10 point training programme which was first developed in 2014 and aims to improve the quality and safety of hospital diabetes care that people with diabetes receive.

Since Ruth launched the programme over 3,000 healthcare professionals have been trained. Feedback has shown that staff feel significantly more confident in managing people with diabetes.

Lesley Robertson, programme director for diabetes shared her delight by stating “We are all so proud of Ruth for this achievement. Improving diabetes care across NW London is a huge challenge so it is great to see the work being recognised “
